Course of Spanish for MFL Secondary Teachers
This course includes Spanish lessons following the needs of Spanish Modern Foreign Language teachers (MFL) and it is offered in two different levels following the UK National Curriculum requirements. Level 1 for KS3/KS4 and level 2 for MFL teachers who teach or wish to teach KS5.
Four hours daily lessons are complemented with the provision of cultural activities in a quit but full of life Castillian city, which includes wine testing and boat trip in the Duero river.
The participants can be hosted in the beautiful Convento de la Merced dated in the XVI century, but as well accommodated with families, if they would wish so. This course allow having an immersion experience in the Spanish language and culture, during summer holidays, in the sunny city of Soria.
LEVEL 1: KS3 and KS4
This course has been tailored to the needs of Spanish MFL teachers who have had few contact with Spanish language and they wish to improve their knowledge to teach Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 of the UK National Curriculum.
The course has a focus in grammar and pronunciation mainly, since these are the main issues that teachers may confront in daily life when they approach to a new language.
Grammar pack day 1-Nouns. Gender rules/Plural. Adjective agreements. Present: regular, some. irregularities, total irregular. Reflexive verbs. Verb gustar. Articles: indefinite/definite. Possesives. Imperatives positive. Classroom instructions. Interrogatives. Puntuation. Negatives, conectives. Possessives. Immediate future tense. Preterite tense: regular and irregular. Weather’s verbs.
Grammar pack 2 – Comparatives and superlatives. Modal verbs: querer and poder, deber. Demonstrative adjectives. Quantifiers/Intensifiers. Conjunctions. Adverbs and adverbial phrases. Future. Imperfect.Conditional. Opinions. Ser/Estar. Imperatives negatives. Introdution to subjunctive. Shortened adjectives forms. Coloquial expressions. Common mistakes at KS3 and KS4 of UK young learners of Spanish.
Cultural pack -Soria, city of romanic art and writers. Spanish leisure. Gastronomy and wine.
LEVEL 2: KS5-A LEVELS
This course has been designed for teachers who want to deepen their knowledge of Spanish grammar and vocabulary to consolidate their skills as Spanish teachers of KS5 and A Levels.
The course has a focus in grammar and the issues that UK students and teachers have to confront when they work to secure their attainments in Spanish.
Grammar pack 1: Revision of verbs: present, preterite, imperfect, future and conditional. Ser-estar. Adverbs and adverbial phrases. Modal: querer, poder, deber. Possesives: pronouns and adjectives. Conjuctions. Opinions. Common mistakes at KS3 and KS4 of UK young learners of Spanish.
Grammar pack 2: Prepositions por and para. Pefect tense. Pluperfect. Future and conditional perfect. Imperative revision. Subjunctive present. False friends. Common mistakes at KS5 of UK young learners of Spanish. Idioms. Imperfect and perfect subjuntive. Essay phrases. Passive voice and avoidance. Use of se. Common mistakes in young UK advanced learners of Spanish.

Along with our courses, the International Center Antonio Machado also provides flexibility when it comes to accommodations for our students. From our options for accommodation the student may choose:
- University Residence Hall “Duques de Soria”
All of the accommodations have been carefully selected for your comfort and safety, while also for their central location in the city and near our Center. Included in the price for accommodation are all utilities (electricity, water, internet, taxes, etc.) and payment for lodging can be made in conjunction with payment for courses to the administration of the Center. The International Center Antonio Machado allows students to change their accommodation should they be unsatisfied with their chosen option as outlined by the Conditions of Enrollment. In any case, please communicate any dissatisfaction with the Secretary of the Center as soon as possible. Students should indicate on their application for Enrollment their preferred accommodation as well as date of arrival and date of departure from Soria. If the student wishes to extend his or her stay, they should communicate with the administration. University Residence Hall “Duques de Soria” The International Center Antonio Machado is situated in the center of Soria. Only a five minute walk from Plaza Mayor and the Castillian hillside, our magnificent Residence Hall lent to us by the University of Valladolid, is where university students, our students, interns and assistants for our programs all stay to participate in our programs and those funded the Fundación Duques de Soria. Our building is located adjacent to the extraordinary sixteenth century church of Santo Domingo, built between 1645 and 1647, it was the dwelling of Tirso de Molina, and is today one of the jewels of Spanish romanesque architecture. The accommodation in our Residence Hall is a great option for those students who wish to integrate themselves in the cultural life of Soria and a Spanish university. It is also a wonderful place to share experiences with your peers from different countries around the world. Within the University Residence Hall “Duques de Soria” you will find various common spaces like: study rooms, TV room, projection room, fitness center, washing machines, WiFi connectivity, twenty-four hour reception and an ample garden and patio. Double or single rooms come fully furnished with a complete bathroom, dresser, and desk. This includes bedding and towels, but please bring your own soap and toiletries!
