CIAM emerged as a result of the ideas of a group of people with wide national and international professional experience, who wanted to create a reference center in the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language in Soria. They were sure that this city is the perfect place to learn Spanish and reach a total immersion in the life and culture of our country, given its location, its literary history, its rich and clear Spanish, its extraordinary historic, artistic and natural heritage, and its cultural and university dynamism. They had the support of the Duques de Soria Foundation, which is an institution with invaluable experience in the promotion of the Spanish language, culture and science. The headquarters of the Foundation, the Convento de la Merced, was chosen as the location of CIAM.
